They are children like most children…eager about life…enthusiastic. Witnesses to what it means to live the moment. At the same time they are also children with special needs. Kids with physical and mental disabilities. They have hearts of courage and perseverance. But they live with diseases like cerebral palsy, spina bifida, scoliosis, and more. What that means is some have arms or legs that don’t work like most…eyes that cannot see…or ears that do not hear…brains that do not communicate effectively with the rest of their bodies. Milestones for these children are often measured in inches. Success is discovered in the little things of their lives…learning to say a new word, taking a step for the first time without assistance. Learning to draw or paint when most people would say it can't be done. Every spring for the last 40 years the St. Louis area community has come together to help these kids and their families. Tonight is that night. |
